Equip Your Church with Clear, Defensible Decision-Making

Gatekeeper Defense Training provides classroom-based Use of Force training designed specifically for churches, houses of worship (H.O.W.) and all faith based safety teams, ushers, staff, and leadership.

This course is non-tactical and does not involve firearms or physical drills. Instead, it focuses on how decisions are made, where boundaries exist, and when restraint is the correct response—helping houses of worship protect their people and their mission.

Why Use of Force Training Matters for Houses of Worship

Houses of worship are unique environments. They are welcoming, emotional, and public. Volunteers are often placed in situations involving:

  • Disruptive or emotionally unstable individuals

  • Domestic disputes spilling into church spaces

  • Unwanted or unauthorized persons

  • Child-related concerns

  • Situations that escalate faster than expected

Without clear guidance, well-meaning volunteers can unintentionally make things worse—creating exposure that leadership never intended.

This training helps prevent that.

What This Course Covers

This course provides a decision-making framework rooted in legal standards and real-world risk. Topics include:

  • What “use of force” means in a legal context

  • The concept of imminent threat and how to assess it

  • Proportionality of response and avoiding excessive force

  • The ability or opportunity to retreat, including Stand Your Ground considerations

  • The reasonable person standard and how your actions will be judged

  • The heightened responsibility that comes with carrying deadly force

  • Why even lawful actions can carry legal, emotional, and financial consequences

  • “The fight after the fight”: What happens after a use-of-force event

  • Why restraint and sound judgment are often your strongest defense

  • This training helps equip church teams with the clarity to act wisely—and the wisdom to know when not to act.

Two Ways to Bring This Training to Your Church

1. Host a Community Event (No Cost to Your Church)
Gatekeeper provides this training as a service to the broader faith community. Your church hosts the event, and we open it to nearby churches and teams. There is no cost to the host, and we handle all coordination.

2. Schedule a Private Training – $300 Flat Rate
For churches that prefer a closed session for their team only, we offer a private version of the same training.

Either format delivers the same practical, decision-making framework.

Why Churches Choose Gatekeeper

Gatekeeper Defense Training brings third-party, professional instruction that helps:

  • Reduce risk created by unclear expectations

  • Protect volunteers through better decision-making

  • Support leadership by demonstrating due diligence

  • Establish consistent language and boundaries across teams

This training does not replace pastoral care or house of worship policy—it supports them.
